They stood there, water dripping from umbrellas, raincoats and bare heads, pooling in buckets, cages and boxes. The lines chalked the night before were muddling and washing away, so they watched as screws were cranked right into the middle of the street, holding rings of yellow thread. Bands of children ran around the rings as mothers stood far behind them, yelling commands to watch their little siblings and to put the poor frog down already.
